Climate, site & wine
Syenite and granodiorite weather into very permeable, easily warmed soils, overlain by loess. The wines are dry, clear and acid-driven.
Riesling, Traminer and Weißburgunder dominate; Schloss Wackerbarth and Hoflößnitz are the well-known estates. The terraces have been protected as a historic wine landscape since 1999. The sites Goldener Wagen, Johannisberg and Steinrücken belong to the Großlage Lößnitz; even the vineyard walls are built of syenite.
