Behind Cellarmap
Cellarmap is built in Heidelberg — as a passion project by a small team of wine lovers, data analysts and web developers. The idea: show what we wish we knew about wine, before having to work through a wine library.
We drink the wines we map. We visit the producers whose vineyards we describe. We read the literature whose consensus we distill.
Our principles
- 1Transparency. Every score, every classification is transparently documented. No black box.
- 2Clarity. We translate jargon into tangible language. No sommelier snobbery.
- 3Independence. We accept no money from wineries for better ratings. Period.
- 4Open data. OSM geocoordinates, public VDP/AOC classifications, Wikipedia, professional literature — we build on verifiable sources.
- 5Humility. We make mistakes, have gaps, develop bias. Tell us — we'll correct.
