The 'yellow one of Odobești': an old Vrancea variety for light, fresh, slightly bitter whites with apple and citrus – traditionally the region's everyday white.

Galbenă de Odobești, the "yellow one of Odobești", is a Romanian variety grown in four wine-growing centres in southern Vrancea in Moldavia. The vine is self-fertile and very vigorous, with shoots more than three metres long. The berries are medium-sized, round and pale yellow, with a russet tinge on the sunny side. Its parentage is not documented.
The grapes reach high sugar levels of 160 to 180 g/l with notable acidity of 4.5 to 6.0 g/l, and yields reach up to 20 t/ha. The result is dry, light whites at 9 to 11 % alcohol, fresh and slightly bitter, with apple and citrus. They are traditionally drunk young, in their first year, and not stored.
