Swan Valley is Australia's oldest wine region, just 25 minutes from Perth. The first vines were planted here in 1829. The hot, continental climate produces opulent, full-bodied wines, especially Chenin Blanc and Verdelho in lavish, fruit-driven styles. Fortified wines (sherry and port styles) have a long tradition. Today craft breweries, chocolate factories and art galleries complement the tourist offering – Swan Valley is a popular day-trip destination for Perth visitors.
