Fetească Albă, the "white maiden grape", is a Romanian white variety. It is grown mainly in Moldavia and Transylvania and also in the Republic of Moldova. In Hungary it is called Leányka and is the most planted native variety in Eger; in German it is known as Mädchentraube. Together with Grasă de Cotnari it is a parent of Fetească Regală. The atlas regions where it stands are Moldavia, Transylvania, Muntenia and Oltenia, Crișana and Maramureș, and Dobrogea.
The variety is often used for sparkling wine, as well as for varietal still wines. Typical aromas are delicate blossom, stone fruit and honey with gentle acidity. Styles range from dry through medium-dry to nobly sweet wines such as those of Cotnari.
It pairs with river fish, poultry, light starters and mild cheeses; the sweet wines suit fruit pastries.
