Negru de Drăgășani is a modern Romanian red crossing of Negru Vârtos and Saperavi. It was bred at the viticulture and oenology research station in Drăgășani by Mircea Mărculescu and Mircea Vlădășel and registered in 1993; some sources give 1987 for both crossings. It is closely tied to Drăgășani in Oltenia and authorised for several designations, including Drăgășani and Dealu Mare. It became known mainly through estates such as Prince Știrbey and Avincis.
The vine has medium-sized bunches and berries and reaches high sugar levels of around 195 to 199 g/l, with high colour intensity and plenty of polyphenols; yields are 11 to 15 t/ha. The wines show dark berries, blackcurrant, blackberry and cherry; in oak, spice, dark chocolate, coffee and vanilla are added, and they have ageing potential.
