The Moseltor lies at 200 to 230 metres, with an annual mean of about 10 to 10.5 °C and around 750 mm of rain. The valley's opening to the south creates favourable conditions; the growing season lasts well over 174 days.

Wine Character
Moseltor is the Saarland section of the Mosel wine region. It lies around Perl, Oberperl, Sehndorf and Nennig in the border triangle, where the Moselle forms the frontier with Luxembourg and France is immediately adjacent. With roughly 125 hectares it is the smallest district of the region. Nennig is known for its Roman villa with its mosaic and for Schloss Berg; the Nenniger Schloßberg is the best-known site.
Unlike on the Middle Mosel, slate does not dominate here but shell limestone (Muschelkalk) with Keuper beds, as on the Luxembourg side. The climate is moderate; frosts are less frequent than on the Upper Mosel further upstream, and slopes and river valley provide warmth.
Typical is Elbling, one of the oldest grape varieties of the Mosel area, which yields light, acid-driven wines and sparkling wine. Weißburgunder and Grauburgunder also play a large part, turning out powerful yet fresh on limestone, along with some Riesling. The wines are rather slender and fresh than opulent.
