The Dealurile Buzăului lie in the Subcarpathians in eastern Muntenia and form the transition from Moldavia to the Dealu Mare wine region. The wine area includes Râmnicu Sărat, Zărnești and Cernătești in Buzău County. The hill country arises at the edge of the Carpathian bend and is shaped by the Buzău river; the vineyards lie on south-facing slopes of the hill ridges.
The climate is continental, with warm summers and cold winters; proximity to the Carpathian arc offers some protection from cold northerly winds. The soils consist mainly of loess and clay, which retain water and favour powerful wines.
Fetească Regală and Riesling Italico are grown for the whites, Fetească Neagră and Merlot for the reds. The wines are mostly fruit-driven and uncomplicated; whites show fresh acidity, reds medium structure. The region is less well known than its neighbours Dealu Mare and Odobești but offers distinctive wines from smaller estates.
