Moderate continental climate without pronounced extremes in the hills north of the Olt valley. Summers are warm and winters cold; the Olt provides sufficient humidity, while the Carpathians to the north temper harsh winds.

Hill country on the Getic Plateau in the north of Olt County, between the Getic hills and the slopes of the Cotmeana piedmont, with elevations of about 100 to 400 m. Vines grow on sun-exposed slopes above the valleys.

The podgorie belongs to the Muntenia and Oltenia wine region and stands out in the Romanian wine landscape because the vines grow not on open slopes but in clearings within forest. This sets Sâmburești apart from most of the country's white-wine podgorii.
The climate is temperate and shaped by the surrounding forest, which moderates temperature extremes and holds moisture. The soils are mainly clay and limestone. Cooler nights and water-retaining clay allow the red varieties to ripen late.
Cabernet Sauvignon is at the centre, with Merlot and the native Fetească Neagră; Sauvignon Blanc is the white variety present. The reds are dense and structured, with tannins that benefit from longer ageing. Domeniile Sâmburești is the defining estate of the podgorie.
