Climate, site & wine
Lalande has more gravel and Néac more clay; the further west, the sandier the soil. Along the N89 lies a mix of gravel and clay with traces of iron oxide.
Merlot dominates by far and gives roundness, with Cabernet Franc adding backbone; the wines resemble Pomerol but are usually simpler and earlier accessible. The commune centres Lalande and Néac lie on either side of the N89; besides Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec are permitted.
