Climate, site & wine
On Muschelkalk, loess and loam, uncomplicated, light whites are made from Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner and Weißburgunder.
A handful of estates bottle their own wine; around a hundred part-time growers deliver to the Winzervereinigung Freyburg. Blauer Portugieser and Roter Traminer complete the range. The roughly 90 hectares equal about 14 percent of Saale-Unstrut production; Grüner Silvaner, Riesling and Weißer Gutedel are also grown.

The area lies on climatically favoured slopes around the Süßer See, between Halle and Eisleben, and counts as the northernmost winegrowing zone. The lake tempers temperatures.

Gentle south-facing slopes near Höhnstedt, Seeburg and Rollsdorf above the Süßer See, without pronounced terracing. Six estates and around 100 part-time growers farm about 90 hectares.
