Climate, site & wine
Sand is very light and free-draining and stores little water, so vines ripen early and the wines turn out mild and soft. Acidity is low, minerality and tannin little pronounced.
Fetească Regală and Riesling Italico produce fragrant, light to medium-bodied whites, Merlot soft reds with plum fruit, and the local Roșioară rosé wines. The area was once dominated by viticulture on sand, before the Sadova–Corabia irrigation system expanded fruit and vegetable growing.

Sandaromatic, approachable
Loose sand and wind-blown sand warm up quickly and hold little water — they give aromatic, early-drinking wines with soft tannins; phylloxera-resistant.

Hot, dry climate in the Oltenian sand plain with hot, very dry summers and moderately cold winters. Heat waves and water scarcity shape the growing season, and ripening is early.
TOPOGRAPHY · gentle
Flat sandy terrain with low dune ridges between Dăbuleni, Tâmburești and Potelu in southern Oltenia, not far from the Danube. Vines grow on level ground with no slope.
