Greaca south-east of Bucharest with Zimnicea, Giurgiu and Fetești: historically table grapes, today simple whites and reds.
Climate, site & wine
Loess and sand warm up quickly and yield ripe, soft wines with low to medium acidity. The heat emphasises fruit and alcohol.
Fetească Regală, Riesling Italico and Muscat Ottonel give dry to off-dry whites with yellow fruit and muscat perfume, Merlot soft reds with plum fruit. Greaca wine was already well known in Wallachia at the end of the 17th century; a viticultural research and production station has existed there since 1959.

Loess stores water and nutrients. Wines tend to be rounder, juicier and fuller.
Sandaromatic, approachable
Loose sand and wind-blown sand warm up quickly and hold little water — they give aromatic, early-drinking wines with soft tannins; phylloxera-resistant.

Hot, dry climate in the Wallachian Plain near the Danube with very warm summers, cold winters and low rainfall. Ripening is early.

Flat to gently undulating terrain of the Wallachian Plain on the Danube terraces around Greaca in south-eastern Giurgiu County, at roughly 40 to 60 metres altitude. Further wine centres of the region are Zimnicea, Giurgiu and Fetești.
