Tuniberg — Kaiserstuhl's smaller loess sister. Soft Pinots with full ripeness.
Climate, site & wine
Unlike the neighbouring Kaiserstuhl, the Tuniberg is not a volcano but a limestone block under a thick loess cover. On these loam- and loess-covered limestone soils, Burgundian varieties above all thrive.
Spätburgunder, Grauburgunder and Müller-Thurgau become soft and round, with less minerality than the wines from the Kaiserstuhl's volcanic rock. The ridge lies between the Black Forest and the Vosges.

Very warm and sunny in the Upper Rhine plain, comparable to the neighbouring Kaiserstuhl; the region is among the warmest in Germany, with more than 1,400 hours of sunshine between April and October.
TOPOGRAPHY · gentle
A ridge about ten kilometres long west of Freiburg, around 312 metres at its highest point and a good 100 metres above the Rhine plain. Wine villages are Opfingen, Tiengen, Munzingen and Niederrimsingen.
