On the right bank of the Garonne, facing Sauternes and Barsac, lie Loupiac and Sainte-Croix-du-Mont with sweet wines, as well as the larger Cadillac appellation, which also makes sweet wine. The name Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux, by contrast, denotes the red-wine slopes around the town of Cadillac. The area lies about 30 to 40 kilometres southeast of Bordeaux.

The slopes consist of limestone and clay; at Sainte-Croix-du-Mont a fossil oyster bed about 22 million years old lies beneath the vineyards. On the plateaus there are gravel and clay. Autumn morning mists from the Garonne favour noble rot (Botrytis cinerea).

The sweet wines are made mainly from Sémillon, with Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle added; they are regarded as somewhat lighter and more delicate than Sauternes. On the red-wine slopes Merlot dominates, complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
