The Mittelmosel is the classical heartland of the region and home to most of the world-famous sites: Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Bernkasteler Doctor (at about 1.4 hectares, one of Germany's most expensive vineyards), Erdener Treppchen, Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr, Graacher Himmelreich, Piesporter Goldtröpfchen and Ürziger Würzgarten. On blue Devonian slate in the steepest slopes, delicate, smoky-mineral Rieslings emerge with characteristically bright, often off-dry style. Top estates Joh. Jos. Prüm, Dr. Loosen, Markus Molitor, Fritz Haag, Schloss Lieser, Selbach-Oster and Willi Schaefer have made the region one of the world's most expensive Riesling addresses.
