Wine Character
Alzey-Land lies in south-western Rheinhessen between Alzey and the Palatinate border. The region is less well-known than the Roter Hang but is home to impressive top estates. Wagner-Stempel in Siefersheim is the most renowned – its Riesling steep slopes on quartzite and slate are considered one of the most exciting discoveries in Rheinhessen of recent decades. The combination of old vine stock, poor soils and uncompromising quality work produces wines of international class. The gently rolling landscape with its Nibelung legends also makes Alzey-Land attractive for tourism.
