The Colinele Tutovei (Tutova Hills) lie in eastern Romania on the Moldavian Plateau, in Vaslui and Galați counties. The podgorie includes Bârlad and Iana in Vaslui County and Bălăbănești in Galați County. The vineyards are on gentle hills with large contiguous vineyard areas, around the town of Bârlad in the valley of the river of the same name.
The climate is continental, with hot summers and cold winters. The soils are loess and clay, which are deep and hold water well. The hill setting provides adequate ventilation and sun exposure.
Fetească Albă, Fetească Regală and Aligoté are grown for white wine, and Băbească Neagră and Merlot for red. The wines are mostly fresh and light; the whites are acid-driven, the Băbească Neagră reds pale and fruity. The podgorie's vineyard areas are large.
