Panciu lies in Vrancea County on the edge of the Eastern Carpathians, near the bend of the Carpathian arc. Besides Panciu, the podgorie includes Țifești and Păunești. The vineyards run along the foothills of the mountains; within Romania, Panciu is best known as a centre of sparkling-wine production.
The climate is continental, with warm to hot summers, cold winters and a noticeable foehn influence near the mountains. The soils are gravel, sand and loess; they are permeable and warm up quickly. The slope sites provide good ventilation and sun exposure.
For white, Fetească Regală, Fetească Albă and the local variety Plăvaie are grown, for red Fetească Neagră, Băbească Neagră and Merlot. Underground cellar galleries in which sparkling wine and still wine are stored are characteristic. The whites are fresh and light, and acid-driven whites provide the base for sparkling production.
