Bottwartal — small region with classic Württemberg variety mix.
Climate, site & wine
Calcareous Keuper soils on the south-facing slopes give the wines substance. Trollinger and Lemberger are the traditional varieties, and the Harzberg is regarded as an ideal Trollinger site.
The wines are mostly light to medium-bodied and fruit-driven, with Lemberger as a more structured counterpart to Trollinger. The Bottwartaler Winzer have been organised as a cooperative since 1966; viticulture in the valley goes back over a thousand years.

Keuper marl with high iron content gives Lemberger and Pinot Noir powerful, spicy depth.

CLIMATE · Cool continental
Mild continental in the Bottwar valley north of Stuttgart, with plenty of sun on the south-facing slopes. The hills shelter from wind; late frost is possible in hollows.

South-facing slopes in the Bottwar valley near Kleinbottwar, Großbottwar, Oberstenfeld and Beilstein. Known sites are Harzberg, Forstberg, Lichtenberg and the Großbottwarer Wunnenstein.
