Climate, site & wine
The layers of the Middle Keuper form the substrate of the vineyard slopes on the Stromberg and Heuchelberg, with loamy loess in the hollows. On these deep, nutrient-rich soils Lemberger ripens powerfully with dark fruit and firm tannins.
Brackenheim is regarded as a Lemberger stronghold; Trollinger and Riesling complete the range. The Weingärtner Stromberg-Zabergäu cooperative in Brackenheim farms around 750 hectares with some 1,050 members.

SOILS
Keuper marlpowerful, iron-red
Keuper marl with high iron content gives Lemberger and Pinot Noir powerful, spicy depth.
Loessround, fruity, full
Loess stores water and nutrients. Wines tend to be rounder, juicier and fuller.
Loambody-rich, velvety
Loamy soils give wines volume and a soft, velvety mouthfeel.
CLIMATE · Cool continental
Mild continental in the lee of the Stromberg and Heuchelberg, which frame the Zabergäu. Warm summers and long autumns allow late ripening of Lemberger; late frost mainly affects valley hollows.
TOPOGRAPHY · moderate
Hilly valley and basin land west of Heilbronn between the Stromberg and Heuchelberg, with villages such as Brackenheim, Güglingen, Cleebronn and Bönnigheim. Known sites are Neipperger Steingrube, Brackenheimer Zweifelberg and Bönnigheimer Sonnenberg.
