Climate, site & wine
Loess over limestone stores deep water and yields well-ventilated, warm soils with a fine mineral note. The heat leads to ripe, full-bodied wines with rather low acidity.
Fetească Regală, Riesling Italico and Sauvignon Blanc give dry to off-dry whites with yellow fruit, Merlot soft, dark-fruited reds. The wine centres of Ostrov, Băneasa, Oltina and Aliman lie on the Danube terraces of southern Dobruja, and viticulture here has a centuries-old tradition along the river.
