Climate, site & wine
Weathered red Buntsandstein gives fine, acidic, permeable soils that store heat well; at the Homburger Kallmuth younger Muschelkalk layers occur. Spätburgunder and Frühburgunder ripen here with a cool, silky structure.
The Spätburgunder are pale to medium in colour, with red cherry, raspberry and fine spice, with soft tannin and freshness. Silvaner and Riesling from the Kallmuth show more chalky tension. Overall elegance defines the style, not power.

Steep, south-facing terraces of red Buntsandstein in the bend of the Main between Aschaffenburg and Miltenberg, with sites such as Centgrafenberg (Bürgstadt), Klingenberger Schlossberg and Homburger Kallmuth. The Kallmuth consists of numerous small terraces.
