Climate, site & wine
Taunus quartzite and slate shape the soils, reddish at Roseneck, very stony at Rottland and partly covered by loess. Riesling shows spice, power and minerality; at the Höllenberg, purple phyllite gives Spätburgunder structure and dark fruit.
Typical are dense, taut Rieslings with stone fruit and a salty, smoky note that can age for a long time. The land consolidation of 1970 combined the Rüdesheimer Berg into four individual sites.

Slatemineral, smoky
Slate stores heat and releases it at night — wines show wet stone, smoke and a delicate structure.
Loessround, fruity, full
Loess stores water and nutrients. Wines tend to be rounder, juicier and fuller.
Loambody-rich, velvety
Loamy soils give wines volume and a soft, velvety mouthfeel.

Warm, sunny microclimate where the Rhine breaks through the Rhenish Slate Mountains. Slate stores heat, the river provides reflected light; day-night swings are marked.
TOPOGRAPHY · steep
The Rüdesheimer Berg consists of four steep south-facing sites: Rottland, Roseneck, Schlossberg and Kaisersteinfels. Roseneck climbs to around 233 metres. The Höllenberg in Assmannshausen lies in a side valley, the Eichbachtal, and is around 45 per cent steep.
