Deep loess stores water yet warms up well, leading to ripe, soft wines. Dryness limits yields and puts fruit and alcohol ahead of acidity.
Băbească Neagră, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Fetească Neagră make medium-bodied reds, alongside Fetească Albă, Fetească Regală and Riesling Italico for dry to off-dry whites. Soft tannins and cherry to plum fruit are typical of the reds, which form the region's premium focus.
