Climate, site & wine
Colourful marls, Keuper weathering and reed and silica sandstone shape the soils. On the clay-rich marls Lemberger and Trollinger become robust, on the sandstone Riesling taut and spicy.
Cool nights preserve acidity: typical are reds with dark fruit and firm tannins as well as Rieslings with lively acidity and herbal spice. Terraces and the shelter of side valleys such as at the Pulvermächer promote even ripening.

Keuper marl with high iron content gives Lemberger and Pinot Noir powerful, spicy depth.
Marlbalanced, structured
Marl is a mix of limestone and clay — yields structured, balanced wines with acidity backbone.
Sandstonewarm, dry, spicy
Sandstone warms quickly and yields ripe, fragrant wines with yellow fruit and fine spice.
Loessround, fruity, full
Loess stores water and nutrients. Wines tend to be rounder, juicier and fuller.
CLIMATE · Cool continental
Mild, slightly continental climate with warm days and cool nights; night-time cold air from the Schurwald brings freshness and aromatic range. Remstal sites benefit from a long growing season, though late frost is possible in hollows.
TOPOGRAPHY · terraced
Terraced, often steep slopes on both sides of the Rems east of Stuttgart, with villages such as Fellbach, Weinstadt and Stetten. The Stettener Pulvermächer is a south-facing terraced slope in a sheltered side valley of the Rems.
