Climate, site & wine
Loamy loess over weathered granite forms deep, warm soils. Riesling and Spätburgunder ripen evenly here and show ripe fruit with a soft structure.
The wines come from a few small family estates and are medium-bodied with moderate acidity. Alsbach-Hähnlein lies at the northern edge of the Hessische Bergstraße, where the Odenwald gives way to the Rhine plain. The vineyard area is small, and viticulture is carried by a few estates.
