Hessische Bergstraße

Hessische Bergstraße, with around 460 hectares, is the smallest of Germany's 13 wine regions. It stretches from Alsbach in the north to Heppenheim in the south along the western slopes of the Odenwald – a narrow strip between Darmstadt and Heidelberg often called "Germany's Riviera" due to its Mediterranean-mild climate.

Riesling dominates over 50% of the planted area, producing precise, mineral whites in top sites such as Heppenheimer Centgericht and Bensheimer Kalkgasse. Pinot Noir is gaining ground, alongside Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc.

Hessische Staatsweingüter Domäne Bergstraße is the region's undisputed flagship and VDP member. Small but high-quality, Bergstraße makes wines almost exclusively for the local market. Authenticity seekers find it here in unfiltered form.
