SOILS

Slatemineral, smoky

Slate stores heat and releases it at night — wines show wet stone, smoke and a delicate structure.

Loessround, fruity, full

Loess stores water and nutrients. Wines tend to be rounder, juicier and fuller.

Limestoneprecise, mineral

Limestone delivers tension, structure and a cooler, more mineral character.

Gravel / Sandlight, approachable

Gravel and sand drain heavily — vines struggle for water, wines turn fine, light and elegant.

CLIMATE · Warm · Dry · Sunny

Mild Rhine climate where the river turns west. The south-facing sites by the Binger Loch are sunny, the Rhine mitigates late frost, and rainfall is low.

TOPOGRAPHY · moderate

Hilly Rhine flank at the junction of Rheinhessen, Rheingau and Nahe. The Binger Rochusberg with the south-facing Scharlachberg is one of the few steep sites in Rheinhessen; near Ingelheim slopes are gentler.
