Climate, site & wine
Heilbronn is regarded as the wine capital of Württemberg. On the Neckar banks near Lauffen, Muschelkalk terraces yield taut, mineral wines, while the Keuper soils behind produce powerful reds with dark fruit.
Trollinger and Lemberger define the region; Lemberger shows spice and firm tannins here, Riesling substance. Weinsberg is home to the State Institute for Viticulture and Fruit Growing.

Keuper marl with high iron content gives Lemberger and Pinot Noir powerful, spicy depth.

Continental with mild annual temperatures in the sheltered Neckar valley. The hills of the Stromberg and Heuchelberg provide shelter, and hot summers and sunny autumn days allow ripe reds.

Terraced vineyards along the Neckar around Heilbronn, with villages such as Lauffen, Weinsberg and Flein. Very shallow soils over Muschelkalk stand at the river, while Keuper prevails on the slopes further from it.
