TERROIR PROFILE

Sainte-Foy Côtes de Bordeaux

Limestone plateau at the Bergerac edge

Bordeaux's easternmost tip: family estates, plenty of organics, fair prices.

Climate, site & wine

Deep soils of clay and limestone retain water, with gravelly subsoil in the valleys. Merlot and Cabernet Franc form the reds.

Alongside the reds come dry and sweet whites from Sauvignon and Sémillon; many estates farm organically. On the hilltops lie clay-limestone and clay-gravel, in the valleys sandy-gravelly boulbène soils; the appellation covers red, white and sweet wines.
