Alzey-Land: rolling hills of limestone, marl and loess in the heart of Rheinhessen.
Climate, site & wine
Calcareous weathered soils, marl and loess from the Mainz Basin carry Riesling and Silvaner. Riesling shows power with clear acidity here, Silvaner spice and calm fullness.
Compared with the warmer sites on the Rhine, the wines are fresher and leaner, mostly made dry. On the lime-rich hills of the Mainz Basin acidity is retained even in warm years, while loess in the hollows gives fullness.

Hilly western Rheinhessen around the district town of Alzey with gentle crests and broad hollows. Higher sites are wind-exposed and cooler; marked steep sites are largely absent.
