Climate, site & wine
Lime-rich soils of calcareous marl and limestone, in many places covered with loess, store water in the subsoil during dry summers. The climate provides warmth, and cooler nights preserve acidity and aroma.
Riesling shows stone fruit, citrus and saline tension; Spätburgunder, Chardonnay and the Pinot Blanc and Gris varieties reach a dense, Burgundian stature with freshness. The wines are compact, powerful and vinified dry, with a mineral drive.

CLIMATE · Warm · Dry · Sunny
Warm and sunny, on the edge of the Palatinate Forest in one of the drier corners of the Pfalz. Nights are noticeably cooler than in the Mittelhaardt, which preserves acidity. Drought stress is possible in hot years.
TOPOGRAPHY · gentle
Gently rolling hills and limestone plateaus around Grünstadt with the wine villages of Asselheim, Laumersheim and Bockenheim at the northern end of the German Wine Route. Vineyards lie on flat to moderately sloping ground at the transition from the Palatinate Forest to the Rhine plain.
