Climate, site & wine
Clay-loam and limestone offer good water retention in a warm microclimate, and vines ripen early.
The Severin podgorie comprises the wine centres of Halânga and Corcova. Corcova was an estate of the Bibescu family; after 1900 a French oenologist came to run the vineyards, and in recent years it has been revived. Grown are, among others, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Fetească Neagră, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc; the reds are dark-fruited. The first mention of the podgorie dates from 1497, when Radu the Great donated wine from Jidoștița to Tismana Monastery.

Gentle to moderately steep slopes in the foreland of the Southern Carpathians near Drobeta-Turnu Severin, with the wine centres of Halânga and Corcova. Vines grow among oak forests and hills close to the Danube.
