Climate, site & wine
Free-draining, warm soils favour light, red-fruited wines. Băbească Neagră keeps its typical acidity here and stays pale in colour.
It is the classic variety of the area, regarded as native here, and gives reds with cherry and fresh acidity, light in body and suited to everyday drinking. Fetească Neagră and Merlot add colour and tannin; white wines are also made from Fetească Regală. The podgorie is old, with first records dating from the 16th century.

Hill country on the left bank of the Siret in the north-west of Galați County, with the centres Nicorești in the south and Buciumeni in the north. Vines grow on hillsides and ridges between the valleys.
