Climate, site & wine

Loess over limestone drains well, and the sea breeze preserves freshness. The wines are medium-bodied with clear fruit and moderate acidity.

Fetească Regală and Sauvignon Blanc yield dry whites with apple, citrus and fresh herbs, Chardonnay somewhat rounder whites with pear fruit. Merlot gives medium-bodied reds with cherry and plum. Istria is the site of the Greek colony of Histria, and viticulture in the region goes back to antiquity.
