Odobești lies in Vrancea County in eastern Romania, at the foot of the Carpathian bend, where the mountains give way to the Subcarpathian hill country. The wine area includes Odobești, Jariștea and Bolotești. The aromatic white variety Șarba was bred at the viticulture research station in Odobești. The town is among Romania's oldest wine towns, and the podgorie is among the larger ones in the country. Beciul Domnesc is a cellar monument at least five hundred years old.
The climate is continental, with warm summers and cold winters; the slopes at the foot of the mountains offer good sun exposure. The soils consist of gravel, sand and loess.
Characteristic are native white varieties: Galbenă de Odobești, which is grown only here, and Plăvaie, along with Fetească Regală and Fetească Albă. Among the reds Fetească Neagră and Băbească Neagră play a role. The whites are light, fresh and fruit-driven.
