TERROIR PROFILE

Sâmburești

Sâmburești – Temperate

Sâmburești on the Olt: Romania's only podgorie with an outright red-wine profile, known for Cabernet Sauvignon from forest clearings (Domeniile Sâmburești).

Climate, site & wine

Loamy, iron-rich clay soils with embedded stones store heat and release it at night; they are rich in nutrients. They yield structured reds with medium acidity.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Fetească Neagră produce reds with blackcurrant and dark cherry, medium to firm tannins and ageing potential. Sauvignon Blanc contributes fresh, grassy-citrus whites. The area is known mainly for its red wines, above all Cabernet Sauvignon.
